Empowering SHGs: RBI Organizes Financial Literacy Programme in Geyzing

Gangtok: RBI Gangtok conducted a Financial Literacy Programme for Self Help Group (SHG) members of Arithang Chongrang GPU, Gyalshing district on January 23, 2025. The program aimed to emphasize RBI's commitment to building capacity among SHG leaders. The program was facilitated by two officials from RBI, Mr  Subash Luyagun, Manager, and Mr Riddik Thapa, Assistant. Mr Subash commenced the session with an overview of the five good principles of SHGs, the Panchasutra, viz., Periodic Meetings, Periodic Savings, Regular Internal Lending, Regular repayment, and Bookkeeping. He also presented on various types of frauds and cybercrimes, including their modus operandi and examples of recent cases. He then informed the participants about the 'Integrated Ombudsman Scheme' of RBI.

Mr Riddik apprised the participants about various government social security schemes, such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, the accident insurance scheme with an annual premium of ₹20, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, the life insurance scheme with an annual premium of ₹436, etc. The session conducted by both officials was appreciated by the SHG members, who requested more sessions in the future. The program was organized as part of RBI's Financial Literacy initiative. To ensure sustained and continuous imparting of financial literacy among the general public, RBI frequently conducts such Financial Literacy camps for a diverse spectrum of people, including school teachers and students, senior citizens, SHGs, MSMEs, farmers, etc., with the objective of creating and enhancing financial literacy among them. -PIB
