Charming Baby Show Becomes the Star Attraction at Kurseong White Orchid Festival!

In Freezing Cold, Women Display Unstoppable Energy in Walkathon!

Kurseong: In the chilling cold of January, the Kurseong White Orchid Festival has managed to warm the hearts of locals and visitors alike. On the festival's second day, January 25, the baby show emerged as a major attraction, drawing large crowds to Monteviot Grounds in Kurseong.

The baby show featured 20 young participants aged between 3 and 5 years. Coordinated by Sylvester Lepcha and Sabita Chettri, the event showcased the charm and talents of the little ones. Judges Sangmo Blon Thapa and Jennifer George evaluated the participants.

The competition aimed to encourage and motivate the children. Subhasna Tamang was declared the winner, followed by Pradakshanashree Chettri in second place and Abhinav Lama in third. Additionally, awards were given in five special categories: Best Smile: Adhved Sharma, Best Dress: Siyana Mukhia, Best Behavior: Yangzhu Yalmo, Most Confident: Emmanuel Tamang, Most Friendly: Adhvika Tamang. Prizes were distributed to all winners and participants by dignitaries, including Sabhashad Shyam Sherpa, Kurseong Municipality Vice Chairman Subhas Pradhan, and Asha Mukhia Lama, president of the Gorkha Sanskritik Sansthan, Kurseong.

Sylvester Lepcha and Sabita Chettri expressed their gratitude to the children and their parents for their enthusiastic participation. Speaking to journalists, they shared their joy over the event's success and thanked everyone involved. The evening concluded with vibrant musical performances that entertained the large crowd gathered for the festival.

Women’s Enthusiasm Shines in the Walkathon

Another highlight of the second day of the three-day Kurseong White Orchid Festival was the walkathon for women aged 60 and above. This event, held for the first time in Kurseong, began at Rohini Gate Zero and culminated at Monteviot Grounds, passing through Kurseong Bazaar and Monteviot Road.

Organized by the Gorkha Cultural Institute in Kurseong, the walkathon was flagged off by Sabhashad Shyam Sherpa and saw the participation of 48 women. Upon their arrival at Monteviot Grounds, the participants were warmly welcomed by Shyam Sherpa, who congratulated them on their spirit and enthusiasm.

Asha Mukhia Lama, president of the Gorkha Sanskritik Sansthan and a member of the festival committee, addressed the media, sharing that this unique event aimed to honor and engage senior women. She expressed gratitude to all participants for making the walkathon a success.

Prominent personalities, including former MP and Hill Trinamool Congress President Shanta Chettri and former Municipal Councillor Devaki Subba, also took part in the walkathon. The Kurseong White Orchid Festival continues to bring joy and vibrancy to the region with its diverse events, attracting people of all ages and walks of life.
