Kurseong: In the second quarterfinal of the 12th Shaheed Gold Cup Football Tournament, held in Kurseong today (January 27), United Football Club Darjeeling delivered an outstanding performance to secure a place in the semifinals. This tournament, organized by the Kurseong Sub-Division Sports Association and supported by the GTA Sports and Youth Affairs Department, is taking place at the Chanmari Ground in Kurseong.


In the second quarterfinal match, United Football Club Darjeeling demonstrated their skills and dominated the game, securing a 4-0 victory against Siliguri's Bright Sporting Club. Norjang Lepcha from United Football Club Darjeeling scored a hat-trick, while Raj Thapa added another goal. For his remarkable performance, including the tournament’s first hat-trick, Norjang was awarded the Player of the Match.


The next two quarterfinal matches will take place on Tuesday. The first match, starting at 11:00 AM, will feature a clash between Kanchenjunga Football Club and Darjeeling Police. The second match, scheduled for 2:00 PM, will see Kanakai Sporting Club (Nepal) face Garhwal Rifles (Kolkata). In today's match Ramesh Agrawal, the Director of Cambridge English School and the Public Prosecutor was present as the chief guest. 


The tournament features 12 top teams, including leading clubs from North Bengal, Nepal, and Kolkata. The semifinals are scheduled for January 30 and 31, followed by the final match on February 2. The tournament champion will receive a prestigious trophy along with a cash prize of ₹2,00,000, while the runner-up will be awarded a trophy and ₹1,00,000 in cash.
