Kurseong: In an exciting first semi-final match of the ongoing 12th Shaheed Gold Cup Football Tournament in Kurseong, Darjeeling Police secured their place in the final by defeating Hills Football Academy. The tournament is being organized by the Kurseong Sub-Divisional Sports Association with the support of the GTA’s Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at Chanmari Ground in Kurseong.

The semi-final match between Hills Football Academy and Darjeeling Police turned out to be a thrilling contest. Right from the start, both teams displayed great skill and energy, but the first half ended goalless. The second half was equally intense. In the 11th minute of the half, Darjeeling Police was awarded a penalty, which was successfully converted by Siddhant Chhetri (Jersey No. 16), giving his team the lead. As the match progressed, in the 18th minute, Wangchuk Tamang (Jersey No. 28) doubled the lead for Darjeeling Police. Finally, in the 27th minute, Wangchuk Tamang scored his second goal of the match, sealing the victory for his team with a 3-0 scoreline. With two goals to his name, Wangchuk Tamang was named the "Player of the Match" for his outstanding performance.

The second semi-final will take place on Thursday (January 31), featuring a clash between Garhwal Rifles, Kolkata, and United Football Club, Darjeeling. The final match is scheduled for February 2. The tournament champions will be awarded an attractive trophy along with a cash prize of 2 lakh, while the runners-up will receive a trophy and 1 lakh in cash.
