Kurseong: In the ongoing 12th Shaheed Gold Cup Football Tournament in Kurseong, United Darjeeling secured a place in the final after an exciting semi-final match on January 31. The tournament is being organized by the Kurseong Subdivision Sports Association with the support of the GTA’s Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at Chanmari Ground, Kurseong.
The semi-final clash between United Darjeeling and Garhwal Rifles Kolkata turned out to be a thrilling encounter. From the very beginning, both teams displayed exceptional skill and energy, making the match highly competitive. United Darjeeling took control in the first half, putting pressure on Garhwal Rifles. In the 29th minute, Praveen Subba scored a brilliant goal, giving his team the lead. Later, in the 43rd minute, United Darjeeling’s Silaaj Lepcha capitalized on a golden opportunity from a free kick and netted his team’s second goal.
In the second half, Garhwal Rifles Kolkata came back with
renewed energy and determination. In the 36th minute of
the second half, they earned a free kick, which Rohit Bhujel skillfully
converted into a goal, securing his team’s first goal. This further fueled
Garhwal Rifles' aggression as they continued to play with high intensity.
However, despite two golden opportunities to equalize, they were unable to
capitalize on them. The thrilling match kept spectators on the edge of their
seats. Rohit Bhujel of Garhwal Rifles Kolkata was awarded
the "Player of the Match" for his outstanding performance.
The final showdown between United Darjeeling and
Darjeeling Police is set to take place on Sunday, February 2,
and is expected to be a grand spectacle. The winning team will receive an
attractive trophy along with a cash prize of ₹2 lakh,
while the runner-up team will be awarded a trophy and ₹1
lakh in cash.
