Kurseong: In the ongoing 12th Shaheed Gold Cup Football Tournament in Kurseong, Darjeeling Police secured a thrilling victory in the first quarterfinal match today (January 28) to advance to the semifinals. The tournament is being organized by the Kurseong Sub-Divisional Sports Association with support from the GTA Sports and Youth Affairs Department at Chanmari Ground in Kurseong.

In the third quarterfinal match, held this morning at 11 AM, Darjeeling Police defeated Kanchanjanga Football Club 5-4 in a penalty shootout. The match was intense and exciting throughout the regular 90 minutes, ending in a 1-1 draw. During regular time, Nehal Sewa of Darjeeling Police scored in the 20th minute, while Lakpa Pakhrin of Kanchanjanga Football Club equalized during injury time. Nehal Sewa of Darjeeling Police was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

The tournament's semifinals are scheduled for January 30 and 31, with the final set to take place on February 2. The champion team will be awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of ₹2 lakh, while the runner-up team will receive a trophy and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh.
